Follow My Playlist: Austin City Limits 16

Another year, another ACL Fest (though this is the 15th so, hooray). Last week the day by day lineup was revealed and single day tickets went on sale, so now’s as good a time as any to share my ACL playlist for 2016. The lineup is pretty, pretty good and the fest organizers have made the decision between Weekend 1 and Weekend 2 even harder, but there’s a lot to like on both sides.

Since you asked, Saturday of Weekend 2 seems to be the strongest day, in my opinion. I’m very much looking forward to seeing Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q, who has an album due out July 8. Shouts to the ascending Anderson .Paak, the very intriguing R&B singer Gallant, and the even newer Chicago rapper Joey Purps. Plus there’s Andra Day and Jack Garratt for additional R&B vibes; DJ Mustard for the youths, and LL Cool J for the olds. AlunaGeorge and Jazz Cartier on Weekend 1 is unfortunate, but, so it goes.

Also, no disrespect to Willie but I imagine it’ll be extra difficult to get a good spot for him, so Haim into LCD Soundsystem (if the schedule makes any sense) would be the play for me on Sunday. Hopefully both have new albums out by then as well. Anyway, this playlist features the aforementioned and many more artists I’m looking forward to seeing. I’ll be exploring the lineup a bit more over the months to come so follow the playlist and send your suggestions.
